Let's play some blues!!
Let's have a genre-oriented musical thread for a change, and let it be about the blues!!
Most probably, everyone likes at least a couple of blues songs, even without being fans of the genre itself. I love listening to the blues now, but I was not very interested in it when I was young. It was the music my father used to listen to back then, and he introduced me to some artists, but I only later started discovering the genre by myself.
The blues originated in the South of the USA in the second half of the 19th century. The lyrics were usually centred on sadness, difficulties and struggles - although there were some humorous ones as well - but love and relationship themes prevailed in the 20th century. One of the main characteristics of the genre are musical improvisations.
The blues has influenced the development of rock and roll and jazz, and elements of blues have been incorporated in musical creations of other genres ever since.
Robert Johnson’s "Cross Road Blues" is considered a blues standard.
And this is one of the recent covers of that song, recorded as part of the international project Playing For Change.
So let's enjoy all those creations and interpretations, old and new ones, from the legends and most famous blues artists, but also from some younger or less known musicians, or those who sing in other languages.
Please, let's keep it light, bright and fun for all our visitors and friends from around the world!!
All our threads stay open for two weeks, you are welcome to stop by anytime and share your thoughts and music. 😁
