Charlie and Snoopy became the main protagonists and, over the years, were joined by Schroeder, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Woodstock, Pepermint Patty, Marcie, Rerun, Spike and dozens of minor and supporting characters as well as some unseen and imaginary ones.
The last strip was published a day after Schulz passed, in February 2000.

By then, Peanuts had appeared in over 2,600 newspapers, reaching 355 million readers in 75 countries, and was translated into 21 languages. The comic strip has also inspired several TV series and specials, as well as a few movies.
In one of the animated specials, also written by Charles W. Schultz, we could see how Charlie and Snoopy first met.
