New and Rare Instruments! 🎶
Occasionally, in our musical threads, we have been introduced to the sounds of some new, rare, or unusual instruments: Bree told us about handpans, Philo posted a performance on a harp guitar, Kenneth showed us how the modern hurdy-gurdy sounds and Sarge shared his discovery of the 3-string shovel electric guitar and the Chapman Stick.
The hang was created in Switzerland in 2000; it inspired the creation of similar instruments now called handpans.
The harp guitar - any guitar with additional unstopped strings - was developed in the 19th century; nowadays, there are acoustic and electric variants.
The medieval hurdy-gurdy was popular across Europe for centuries, and has been rediscovered in recent decades, with electric and electronic versions.
A custom 3-string shovel electric guitar played with a metal or glass slide. It’s part of the tradition of cigar box guitars and DIY blues instruments.
The Chapman Stick was invented by Emmett Chapman in the 1970s. It has 10-12 strings and is played using a two-handed tapping technique.
Also, some talented artists can make music with anything, like Abby the Spoon Lady, who turns spoons into a brilliant percussion instrument! Thank you, TAFF, for this discovery!
So, let’s make it a challenge: post music played on new, rare, or unusual instruments, and let’s learn together!
All genres and authors, from any era and in any language, are very appreciated as ever, and feel free to dance too!
Welcome to The Dog House, all our threads stay open for as long as they are being used and enjoyed!🌻
