Folk music around the Globe!! 🎶

Whether it is traditional or contemporary, folk music maintains its presence and continues to evolve, often influencing or merging with other musical genres.

The storytelling in folk music, its musical simplicity, and the use of acoustic instruments have reflected local cultures and ethnic traditions.
Its evolution in the last century has given birth to many subgenres, including those that combine traditional music from various cultures with modern elements.

One of the outstanding examples of the longevity, adaptability and popularity of traditional music is The House Of The Rising Sun, a song we all know and love. It’s an American folk ballad of unknown origin; some musicologists consider that it may have evolved from old English ballads, and that it might be a few centuries old.

The folklorist Alan Lomax was one of the first to collect this song by recording the performance of a 16-year-old daughter of a local miner, Georgia Turner, in Kentucky in 1937.

In the following decades, many artists released their acoustic versions, including Bob Dylan in 1962, on his first album.

But the song became worldwide famous thanks to The Animals; their version with rock instrumentation released in 1964 became the first folk-rock hit.

Let's travel around the Globe in this thread and enjoy some folk music, traditional or newly composed, in any language or genre!
It would be interesting to share the stories about their origin, too!
